Thanks, William. I appreciate your encouragement, and welcome your help getting the word out. We will also be doing a photo project titled “Connecting with our past to shape our future” which will run from now through the end of May – culminating with an exhibit of the project and other photographs at the library in June. I will start a new thread on this photo project soon. It will be in conjunction with a series of presentations at the library (YOU can take Great Photographs). Thanks for the input and encouragement. Very good question about what being a “provisional” Main Street city means…

As a provisional Main Street city, we are lined up to be accepted as a full Main Street city next year. This opens the way for additional support from the state. Palestine has brought on board a Main Street director to get a running start at this – taking advantage of his enthusiasm and experience this year. Neely Plumb is the Main Street director.

The Texas Main Street Program, part of the Texas Historical Commission’s Community Heritage Development Division, helps Texas cities revitalize their historic downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts by utilizing preservation and economic development strategies.

The program began in 1981 and is affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Texas Main Street Program is among the most successful downtown revitalization programs in the nation, and has assisted more than 130 Texas cities through the program. The program has resulted in the private reinvestment of more than $860 million in Texas downtowns and neighborhood commercial districts, the creation of more than 18,200 jobs and the establishment of more than 4,600 new businesses

I think you should create an “About” page on this blog. Since I’m a resident of Palestine, I’d like to know the purpose of this blog and who’s behind it.
